Meanderings        zinc etching        10 x 10 cm

Sue Conrad

I trained in Constructed Textiles at Goldsmiths College and latterly gained my MA in Printmaking at the University of the West of England, Bristol.

Because I am keenly aware of surface textures etching has proved to be an inspiring and enriching experience. Working on both zinc and aluminium plates, I try to create ghost like images where form and ground interpenetrate. The burnishing, scratching, sanding and chine colle all allow extra light onto the surface producing a palimpsest of marks.

I find that the small scale of the plates on which I work allows ample scope to explore both the delicacy and boldness of the images that engage me.
